バド・パウエル～Bud Powell

1924年9月27日 - 1966年7月31日
本名:Earl Rudolph "Bud" Powell
ジャズ・ピアニスト。
ビバップスタイルのジャズを、ジャズ・ピアノの分野に定着させ、モダン・ジャズピアノの祖と呼ばれている。
また、ピアノ、ベース、ドラムスの「ピアノ・トリオ」形式を定着させた。

1940年代後半から50年代初頭が音楽面の最盛期（1947年～1953年頃までが最盛期であったと言われている。）
麻薬やアルコールなどに依存、1940年代から精神障害を患い、1953年頃から長期の療養を余儀なくされることも多く、衰えが著しくなる。
1959年以降、フランス・パリに定住。音楽的に良好な環境と聴衆に支えられ薬物依存から脱却するも、1962年、肺結核を患い、1966年アメリカ帰国中に死去した。
